Description

1,1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8-heptadecafluoro-10-iodoheptane (also known as 1-Iodo-1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecane or 1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorodecyliodide) is an organic fluorine fabric finishing agent. The organic fluorine fabric finishing agent has excellent water and oil repellency, air permeability and washing resistance, anti-fouling, and easy decontamination properties.

Uses

1,1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8-Heptadecafluoro-10-iododecane is used in that preparation of a chemical compounds employed in high-performance organic thin-film transistors. It also finds it application as an appliance in boat and building paint.

General Description

1-Iodo-1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecane was identified as Persistent Organic Pollutant (POP) and was listed as high-production-volume chemical (HPVC).

Synthesis

Perfluorooctane iodide (520 g, 1.16 mmol), Na2S2O4 (20.9 g, 0.12 mol), Na2HPO4 (21.5 g), Acetonitrile (900 mL) and water (300 mL) were added to a 2 L autoclave and ethylene gas was passed to bring the pressure to 40 atm. at 40-45 C for 3 hrs, a significant decrease in ethylene pressure was observed.19F NMR tracking of the reaction revealed that the feedstock had reacted The reaction was stopped, the excess ethylene gas was discharged, the lower organic layer was separated, washed with water, washed with saturated brine, and then dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate . Sodium sulfate, drying, vacuum removal of organic solvents, the compound perfluorooctane ethyl iodide was obtained as a white solid (525 g, yield 95%, mp56-57 ?? C).
