Biological ActivityTight junction protein 1 (TJP1) or zona occludens protein 1 (ZO1) has a role in the formation of epithelial lumens. It interacts with occludin and modulates tight junction barrier regulation. ZO1 is also involved in the formation of the odontoblast layer and in actomyosin cytoskeleton regulation. Low expression of ZO1 has been linked to increased cell invasiveness in breast cancer, colorectal cancer and digestive tract cancers.
