UsesOrganic synthesis of flavors, perfumes, medicines, dyes, resins.
Uses2-Ethyl-1-butene is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and pharmaceuticals.
Safety ProfileA human eye irritant. A very dangerous fire hazard when exposed to heat, flames, or oxidizers. To fight fire, use dry chemical, CO2, foam, spray. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
Purification MethodsWash it with 10N aqueous NaOH, then water. Dry the organic layer with CaCl2, filter and fractionally distil it. [Beilstein 1 IV 850.]
