Uses1,3-Cyclooctadiene has been used in the preparation of 2-cyclooct-2-en-1-yl-1,3-cyclooctadiene, a novel bicyclic triene.
General DescriptionEnantiodifferentiating geometrical photoisomerizations of (Z,Z)-1,3-cyclooctadiene was studied using "cyclodextrin nanosponge", as a supramolecular sensitizing host. Dendrimer-encapsulated Pd-Rh bimetallic nanoparticle catalyzed partial hydrogenation of 1,3-cyclooctadiene has been reported.
Synthesis1,3-Cyclooctadiene is prepared by cyclodimerization of butadiene. Procedure: Prepare the catalyst (a toluene solution of triethylaluminum, P catalyst, and N catalyst) and add it to the reactor. Butadiene is added intermittently to the reactor. The temperature is slowly raised to 85C. The reaction temperature is controlled below 110C. Butadiene is added dropwise when the pressure is below 0.2MPa. After all butadiene is added, the mixture is held at 1082C for 3 hours. After reaction, it is cooled and discharged. The reaction mixture contains 84.2% 1,5-cyclooctadiene, with a butadiene conversion of 95.3%.
