| Synthesis | The general procedure for the synthesis of 2-bromo-3-methylbenzaldehyde from 2-bromo-3-methylbenzyl alcohol is as follows: in a dry, round-bottomed flask 2-bromo-3-methylbenzyl alcohol (5.00 g, 24.9 mmol, 1.00 eq.), pyridinium chlorochromate (PCC, 16.2 g, 75.0 mmol, 3.00 eq.), and dichloromethane (DCM, 70 mL) were added . The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. After completion of the reaction, the reaction solution was concentrated by rotary evaporator. The concentrated residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography with an eluent ratio of 20:80 ethyl acetate (EtOAc) to petroleum ether to afford 2-bromo-3-methylbenzaldehyde (4.40 g, 89% yield) as a white solid. The product was characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS, EI mode) with a molecular ion peak m/z of 198 [M]+. | | References | [1] Comptes Rendus Chimie, 2017, vol. 20, # 6, p. 665 - 681 [2] Patent: WO2016/149401, 2016, A2.
