| Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of 2-bromo-5-phenylthiophene from 2-phenylthiophene: 2-phenylthiophene (1.5 g, 9.4 mmol) was completely dissolved in chloroform (100 mL), followed by slow addition of N-bromosuccinimide (1.7 g, 9.4 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. Upon completion of the reaction, the solvent was completely removed by distillation under reduced pressure. Subsequently, ethanol was added to the residue at 0 °C and stirred for 20 min. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and the filtrate was dried under vacuum at room temperature to afford 2-bromo-5-phenylthiophene (2.2 g) in 100% yield. | | References | [1] Patent: WO2008/153338, 2008, A2.
