Subsequently, LiOH (461 mg) dissolved in water was added. After the reaction was carried out for 2 h, the pH of the reaction mixture was adjusted to 4 with 1 N HCl. Next, the reaction mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The organic layer was separated, washed with brine and dried over MgSO4. Finally, the resulting solid was ground in ether to give 1.0 g (98% yield) of 2-chloro-4-methoxybenzoic acid.
