| Chemical Properties | Clear colorless liquid | | Uses | 4-(2-Aminoethyl)tetrahydropyran is a useful pharmaceutical intermediate. | | Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of 4-(2-aminoethyl)tetrahydropyran from 4-cyanomethyltetrahydropyran: (tetrahydro-4-pyranyl)-acetonitrile (75 g, 0.60 mol), Pd/C catalyst (2.5 g), and ethanol (400 mL) were added to a hydrogenation reactor. The air in the reactor was replaced with hydrogen three times, and then the reaction was stirred at 25 °C and 1 MPa hydrogen pressure for 12 hours.
