| Synthesis | Example 1- Synthesis of 1,5-dibromonaphthalene-2,6-diol: Naphthalene-2,6-diol (5.1 g) was dissolved in 50 mL of tetrahydrofuran (THF) followed by addition of N-bromosuccinimide (NBS, 11.4 g). The reaction mixture was heated to reflux and the reaction progress was monitored by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction was quenched with saturated sodium thiosulfate solution and the solid product was collected by filtration. The solid was washed with water to afford 1,5-dibromonaphthalene-2,6-diol in 90% yield.
