| Synthesis | B. Synthesis of 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-5-ol. Benzofuran-5-ol (300 mg, 2.24 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (10 mL) and 10% Pd-C catalyst (20 mg) was added. The mixture was placed in a Parr hydrogenator and the reaction was shaken for 19 h at 50 psi hydrogen pressure. Upon completion of the reaction, the catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated to give the crude product. The crude product was purified by recrystallization from toluene twice. The crystalline solid was collected by vacuum filtration and dried to give 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-5-ol (155 mg, 51% yield).1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 6.71-6.75 (m, 1H), 6.62-6.66 (m, 1H), 6.55-6.60 (m, 1H), 4.54 (t, 2H), 4.35 (s, 1H), 3.18 (t, 2H). | | References | [1] Patent: US2011/105527, 2011, A1.
