A solution of 2,6-dimethylaniline (1.0 mmol) and p-toluenesulfonyl chloride (1.0 mmol) in ethanol (4 mL) was added to a 25 mL round-bottomed flask, followed by the addition of Natrolite nano-zeolite (0.08 g). The reaction flasks were placed in a sonication bath ensuring that the flasks were immersed 5 cm below the liquid surface.The reaction was carried out at a frequency of 40 kHz and a power of 250 W at 25-30 °C (bath temperature and temperature inside the reactor) for the reaction time referred to in Table 5.The temperature of the water bath was adjusted by increasing and decreasing the amount of water to keep the reaction temperature in the range of 25-30 °C. The reaction process was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC). Upon completion of the reaction, the catalyst was separated by filtration, washed with ethyl acetate and activated at 100 °C for 2 h before being reused. The catalyst was shown to have no significant decrease in activity over at least five consecutive uses. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford N-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide in solid form in good yield. The obtained product was confirmed by comparison with the compounds reported in the literature [7,24-28] by spectral analysis.
