General procedure for the synthesis of 7-fluoroisoquinoline from 1-chloro-7-fluoroisoquinoline: 1-chloro-7-fluoroisoquinoline (60 g, 330 mmol) was dissolved in methanol and 6 g of Pd/C catalyst and 53 g (1.3 mol) of sodium hydroxide were added. The reaction was carried out overnight under hydrogen atmosphere. After completion of the reaction, filtration was carried out and the filtrate was collected and dried. Finally, purification by column chromatography (using petroleum ether as eluent) gave 20 g of the target product 7-fluoroisoquinoline.
