UsesChloroacetaldehyde dimethyl acetal can be used as a reactant to synthesize:

PreparationChloroacetaldehyde dimethyl acetal is obtained by the stoichiometric reaction of vinyl acetate and chlorine in the presence of excess methanol. The specific steps are as follows:
