It is synthesized by the reaction of sodium methanethiolate and formaldehyde with magnesium. The product yield is not very high, but 2-bromo-3-fluoropyridine can be used for the synthesis of other heterocyclic compounds. The compound was first isolated in 1887 by J. Grignard from a reaction between bromine and formaldehyde. It has been shown to have formylation, nucleophilic substitution, and condensation reactions as its transition states. 2-Bromo-3-fluoropyridine can be prepared from the Grignard reagent, methanethiolate, and chlorine or magnesium chloride in an ether solution at room temperature. This compound has also been used as a reagent for the preparation of difluoromethoxybenz. |
