CYFIP1 also plays a role in neuronal axonal growth dynamics by binding to the WAVE complex to regulate remodeling of actin filaments. Mutations in the gene encoding CYFIP1 has been linked to multiple neural development and psychiatric disorders, including autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia.
