| | 4-(4-HYDROXYPHENYL)BUTANOIC ACID Usage And Synthesis |
| Uses | 4-Carboxypropylphenol is a bacterial chlorophyll derivative. | | Synthesis | 4-(4-Methoxyphenyl)butyric acid (25g, 129mmol) was dissolved in 48% HBr (125ml) and AcOH (125ml). The resulting solution was heated at 150°C overnight. The resulting mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was dissolved in EtOAc (500ml). The solution was washed with water (500ml), dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)butanoic acid as a tan solid. | | References | [1] Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2001, vol. 11, # 4, p. 509 - 513 [2] Journal of Natural Products, 2017, vol. 80, # 5, p. 1623 - 1630 [3] Organic Process Research and Development, 2004, vol. 8, # 4, p. 670 - 673 [4] Patent: EP2388247, 2011, A2.
