| Uses | Methyl D-Ribofuranoside is used in the preparation of antiviral nucleosides and derivatives thereof. | | Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of methyl α-D-xylofuranoside from methanol and 2-furancarboxylic acid (CAS:532-20-7): D-ribose (500 g, 3.33 mol) was dissolved in 1.5 L of anhydrous methanol containing 0.5% (v/v) hydrochloric acid, and the reaction system was placed in a round-bottomed flask fitted with a drying tube of calcium carbonate, and the reaction was stirred for 48 h at room temperature. Upon completion of the reaction, the pH of the reaction mixture was adjusted to 7 using Dowex (OH type) ion exchange resin to neutralize the acidity.
