In addition, PRMT6 show automethylation activity, which is unique among the members of PRMT family. PRMT6 mediates cigarette smoke extract (CSE)-triggered apoptosis and inflammation via di-methylation H3 arginine 2 (H3R2me2a) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). PRMT6 plays a crucial role in various physiological processes such as transcriptional regulation, DNA repair and human immunodeficiency virus pathogenesis.
