Uses	1,2-Bis(trimethylsilyloxy)cyclobutene is a useful chemical reactant used in the preparation and biological activity of serine and threonine β-lactones as inhibitors of hepatitis A virus 3C cysteine proteinase.
Application	Used as a suitable reagent for annulation processes and 4-keto ester synthesis.
General Description	Photocycloaddition of 2-cyclohexenones to 1,2-bis(trimethyl-siloxy)cyclobutene has been studied. It undergoes Aldol condensation reaction with carbonyl compounds. It reacts with Br₂ to give cyclobutanedione.
Synthesis	1,2-Bis(trimethylsilyloxy)cyclobutene is prepared as a colorless liquid by acyloin condensation of Diethyl Succinate (dispersed Na in toluene or Et2O, reflux) using Chlorotrimethylsilane as trapping agent.
storage	Use in a fume hood; the compound is stable for years if stored in a tightly screw-capped bottle. Prolonged exposure to moist air leads to decomposition.
