| | 3-(METHACRYLOYLOXY)PROPYLTRIS(TRIMETHYLSILOXY)SILANE Usage And Synthesis |
| Advantages |
3-(Methacryloyloxy)propyltris(trimethylsiloxy)silane is a silane-modified methacrylate characterized by its unique siloxy functional groups, which impart hydrophobicity and thermal stability.
| | Chemical Properties | Colorless transparent liquid | | Uses |
3-(Methacryloyloxy)propyltris(trimethylsiloxy)silane acts as a tetramethylsilane-protected silicate compound utilized for proteomics research. It is also used as a silane coupling agent, silane adhesion promoter, silane hydrophobing agent, silane dispersing agent and silane crosslinking agent. It is also employed as a silane moisture scavenger, polypropylene catalyst, silicate stabilizer, polyurethane endcapper silane, silane drying agent, silane curing agent and silane reinforcer. Further, it serves as a silylating agent, silane reducing agent, silyl building block and synthons in synthetic chemistry.
| | Reactions |
3-(Methacryloyloxy)propyltris(trimethylsiloxy)silane forms explosive mixtures with air on intense heating.
| | Flammability and Explosibility | Not classified | | Synthesis | To a 500 mL three-necked flask equipped with a constant pressure dropping funnel, magnetic stirrer, Dean-Stark splitter and condenser tube, 124.18 g (0.5 mol) of 3-(methacryloyloxy)propyltrimethoxysilane was added under nitrogen protection, followed by 0.15 g of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and 0.15 g of BHT.A 198.35 g (1.5 mol) of trimethylsilyl acetate was added to the reaction flask by slow dropwise addition through the constant pressure dropping funnel at 80 °C. 198.35 g (1.5 mol) trimethylsilyl acetate to the reaction flask. During the dropwise addition, most of the low-boiling by-products were continuously distilled and collected through a Dean-Stark splitter side tube. After the dropwise addition was completed, stirring of the reaction mixture was continued for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was transferred to a dispensing funnel and washed six times with 100 mL of water until a neutral colorless clear liquid was obtained. A small amount of low-boiling impurities was removed by rotary evaporation under reduced pressure to yield 198.08 g of 3-(1,1,1,5,5,5-hexamethyl-3-((trimethylsilyl)oxy)trisiloxan-3-yl)propyl methacrylate in 93.7% yield. | | References | [1] Patent: CN103554169, 2016, B.
