| | Chlorophyllin Usage And Synthesis |
| Description | Chlorophyllin are a group of water-soluble salts being semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Its major form sodium/copper derivative can be used as a food additive and in alternative medicine. As alternative medicine, it can be used as an aid to reduce the odor of urines or feces (bowel movements). It can also be used to improve the life quality in people who have fecal incontinence due to spinal cord injury, bowel cancer, psychotic disorder, terminal illness, or other disorders. It can also be sold as an herbal supplement. Chlorophyllin can also bind to mutagenic substances such as polycyclic aromatic benzo[a]pyrene and dibenzo{a,i}pyrene. As a topical preparation, it is useful for both treatment and odor control of wounds, injuries, and other skin conditions such as radiation burns.

| | Chemical Properties | Dark green solid | | Uses | Chlorophyllin, coppered trisodium salt is used in the spectrophotometric determination of Ven- lafaxine hydrochloride. A hybrid photoelectrochemical biofuel cell is composed of a TiO 2 film conductive glass electrode sensitized by a copper chlorophyll trisodium salt. Visible light-sensitive gels were prepared by introducing a chromophore (trisodium salt of copper chlorophyllin) to thermosensitive gels. | | Biological Activity | Chlorophyllin is a water soluble derivative of chlorophyll. It has chemopreventive properties and forms a non-covalent complex with many mutagenic/carcinogenic molecules. The complex formation reduces absorption or allows excretion of the mutagenic/carcinogenic molecules. Chlorophyllin also exhibits antioxidant, antiapoptotic and immunostimulatory effects. It provides benefits, such as prevention of body odor and increased wound healing. |
