| STIGMASTANOL Usage And Synthesis |
Uses | Stigmastanol is used in food product formulations for prevention and treatment of hypercholesterolemia, hypertension and inflammation disorders in humans | Definition | ChEBI: A 3-hydroxy steroid that is 5alpha-stigmastane which is substituted at the 3beta position by a hydroxy group. | Biological Activity | Plant stanols are structurally similar to cholesterol, hence it reduces the plasma level of LDL cholesterol. Sitostanol is known to possess hypolipidemic and antiatherogenic effects.', 'Sitostanol decreases cholesterol absorption. Its ratio with cholesterol is implicated in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The ratio also correlates with liver steatosis and inflammation. Sitostanol induces interferon γ production and T-helper response in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) in asthma patients. It is a hypocholestremic agent as it decreases the micellar solubility and absorption of cholesterol.', 'Sitostanol lowers the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and serum cholesterol. | IC 50 | Human Endogenous Metabolite |
