| | 1,4-DIMETHOXY-2-FLUOROBENZENE Usage And Synthesis |
| Chemical Properties | white crystalline low melting solid | | Uses | 2-Fluoro-1,4-dimethoxybenzene is used as an important raw material and intermediate used in organic Synthesis, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and dyestuff. | | Synthesis | A mixture of hydroquinone (1 mmol) and anhydrous potassium carbonate (0.21 g, 1.5 mmol) in anhydrous acetone (2 mL) was stirred for 15 min and dimethyl sulfate (1.5 mmol) was added to the mixture. The mixture was refluxed to complete the reaction and monitored by TLC for 24 h. Volatiles were removed under vacuum. CH2Cl2 (15 mL) was added to the reaction mixture under stirring for 5 min and the resulting mixture was filtered. The solution was extracted with distilled water (4 x 25 mL) and washed with brine solution. The combined organic layers were dried over sodium sulfate. Evaporation of the combined organic layers under reduced pressure afforded 1,4-dimethoxy-2-fluorobenzene. |
