| | 3-Hydroxy-2-iodo-6-methylpyridine Usage And Synthesis |
| Chemical Properties | Light yellow to yellow powder | | Synthesis | Step A: 6-Methylpyridin-3-ol (0.5 g, 4.58 mmol) was dissolved in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (4.5 mL, 1 M, 4.5 mmol). Iodine (1.28 g, 5.2 mmol) was added to this solution and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. After completion of the reaction, it was neutralized with aqueous hydrochloric acid (2 M) to pH ≈ 7. A white precipitate precipitated from the reaction system and the product was collected by filtration. The solid product was washed with deionized water and dried to give 2-iodo-6-methylpyridin-3-ol (0.8 g, 50% yield). Mass spectral analysis showed m/z 236.0 [M + H]+. | | References | [1] Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 1998, vol. 8, # 16, p. 2117 - 2122 [2] Patent: US9617268, 2017, B2.
