The process begins with the preparation of 2-ethylthioethanol, which serves as the thiol-containing alcohol precursor. This intermediate is then reacted with diethyl thiophosphoryl chloride (a phosphorus halide reagent) under controlled conditions to form the phosphorothioate ester linkage.
