DefinitionChEBI: A carotenol that is carotenol psi,psi-carotene substituted by a hydroxy group.
Purification MethodsCrystallise lycoxanthin from diethyl ether/light petroleum, *C6H6/pet ether or CS2. Purify it also by chromatography on columns of CaCO3, Ca(OH)2 or deactivated alumina, and washing with *benzene and eluting with 3:1 *C6H6/MeOH. Store it in the dark, in an inert atmosphere, at -20o. The dipalmitate ester crystallises from *C6H6/MeOH and has m 76o. [Beilstein 1 III 2051, 1 IV 2368.]
