Immunohistochemistry (1 paper) | | Biological Activity | Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) plays an important role in neuronal proliferation and vascular cells. It also plays an athero-protective role. Mutations in the SIRT1 gene affects the metabolism, cholesterol and f at deposition. SIRT1 has the ability to intermediate the insulin resistance through an inflammatory process, reactive oxygen species, gluconeogenesis and adiponectin level. It is an NAD(+)-dependent histone deacetylase involved in various nuclear events such as transcription, DNA replication, and DNA repair. SIRT1 protein binds and deacetylates the p53 protein.
