It chemo-attracts monocytes, dendritic cells and natural killer (NK) cells and aids in their function. The protein exerts human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) suppressive activity. The 67 amino acid form of MDC displays reduced chemoattractant activity but retains HIV suppressive activity. It is expressed in various cancers and is involved in recruitment of regulatory T cells (Treg) within a tumor. |
