Biological ActivityLGALS7 (lectin, galactoside-binding, soluble, 7) gene encodes a β-galactoside-binding protein th at is involved in mediating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions for normal growth control. The expression of this protein stimulates caspase-3 activity and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase cleavage, leading to initiation of apoptotic pathway. The protein contains a carbohydrate binding domain and a short N-terminal sequence.
