| | BRUCINE SULFATE Usage And Synthesis |
| Uses | Brucine Sulfate can be used to detect chlorate residues by colorimetry with test kits to improve shelf life. This compound has been considered to be a non-primary irritant and sensitizer in humans, and can be used as an adhesive path with aversive agents due to its antibacterial properties. | | Synthesis | After acidification by adding 5 times (w/w) of aqueous hydrochloric acid solution with pH 5.0 to 500g of crude strychnine powder, the extract was obtained by centrifugation after continuous countercurrent ultrasonic extraction for 4h at 60 and 40KHz, and the pH was adjusted to 9 by sodium hydroxide, and the above solution was directly passed through the pretreated AB-8 large-pore adsorbent resin, which was was first rinsed with an equal amount of distilled water, and then eluted with 70% of ethanol at 8BV, at a flow rate of 10mL/min. The flow rate was 10mL/min, the eluate was concentrated to 1/8 of the original volume under reduced pressure, 10% ethanol solution of sulfuric acid was added, and left to stand, the precipitated strychnine sulfate was obtained, and the crystallization was repeated for 2 times, and 8.0g of strychnine with 98.1% purity was detected by HPLC, and the salt can be obtained by adding sulfuric acid to form the salt, and the strychnine sulfate was obtained. | | Purification Methods | Brucine sulfate (hydrate) [4845-99-2] M 887.0, m ~180o(dec), [] 20 -36o (dry; c 1, H2O). The heptahydrate crystallises from water as colourless laths. [Eeles Acta Cryst 6 809 1953, Beilstein 27 III/IV 7875.] |
