Hafnium (IV) Oxide is a white powder. M.p. 2780°C; d 9.68. Essentially identical with ZrO2 in chemical behavior. It probably forms the same types of crystal lattice.
| | Uses | Resists heat and corrosion, making it an ideal lining for refractory
furnaces. | | Preparation | Hafnium (IV) oxide is prepared by calcination of the hydroxide, oxalate, oxychloride or sulfate at 600-1000 ℃. The crystallization of the oxide starts at 400 ℃.
