| Synthesis | Step C: Synthesis of methyl 5-bromo-3-methylpyridine-2-carboxylate
5-Bromo-3-methylpyridine-2-carboxylic acid (2.6 g, 12 mmol) was dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (20.0 mL) followed by addition of potassium carbonate (4.99 g, 36.1 mmol) and iodomethane (1.50 mL, 24.1 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 80 °C for 40 min. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate and water by partitioning. The organic layer was separated, washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to give methyl 5-bromo-3-methylpyridine-2-carboxylate 2.3 g in yellow solid form in 83% yield. | | References | [1] Patent: US2013/96144, 2013, A1.
