| Description | Copal is the general name for fossil and other hard resins found in almost all tropical countries. All are distinguished by their yellowish to yellowish-brown color and their solubility in chloral hydrate, alcohol, linseed oil, and turpentine. Their main use is in the manufacture of lacquers, varnishes, coatings, and adhesives.
