| Uses | Ferrous sulfate nonahydrate can be used as a water purifier, a desulfurizing agent for coal, an engraving agent for aluminum, a pigment, biodiesel, ink, a disinfectant, a catalyst, and a mordant. It is used as an electrolyte in iron-chromium redox flow batteries. It is also used as an electrolyte in zinc-nickel-iron alloy plating and zinc-iron-cobalt alloy plating. Furthermore, it can be used as an oxidizing agent in gold and silver production; and as a remediation agent for soil contaminated with heavy metal arsenic. | | Application | Water treatment plants use ferric sulfate nonahydrate as a substitute for polyaluminum chloride.
