| Pharmaceutical Applications | 2-Amino-3-methylpyrazine is utilized in medicinal chemistry as a scaffold for developing bioactive molecules, such as kinases and potential antiviral agents. | | Synthesis | The general procedure for the synthesis of 2-amino-3-methylpyrazine from 2-chloro-3-methylpyrazine was as follows: a mixture of 2-chloro-3-methylpyrazine (7 g, 54.69 mmol) and 25% ammonia (100 mL) was placed in a sealed tube, heated to 160 °C and reacted for 24 hours. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to room temperature and extracted with ethyl acetate (3 x 200 mL).
