Background of development
Sources of alkalinity:
The water alkalinity refers to the amount of substances containing in water which could receive hydrogen ions. There are a variety of sources such as hydroxide, carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate, silicate, sulfite and nitrogen, etc., which are common alkaline substances exist in water and can react with the acid.
The significance of alkalinity test
Alkalinity is a kind of comprehensive characteristic index of water, which represents the total amount of substances that can be titrated by strong acid. Alkalinity index commonly used in the evaluation of the buffering capacity of water and in which the solubility and toxicity of metal. It is an indicator to judge the controlling in process of water and wastewater treatment. If the alkalinity is formed of an excessive amount of alkali metal salts, then the alkalinity is also an important basis for determining whether the water is suitable for irrigation.
Principle
This method equals to the standard method that is acid-base indicator titration method (“water and wastewater monitoring and analysis methods”(4th edition)). The water sample is titrated with standard acid solution to the required pH. The titration end point can be judged by acid-base indicator with changing of its color in this pH value.
Quick and easy
Operating in accordance with the instructions, users can complete the alkalinity test independently without specialized training. Five minutes is enough to complete the analysis of one water sample.
Accurate and reliable
Determination results with this method are in accordance with the results with the standard method. It can be used as an alternative method to the standard method.
The range of the determination: 10～280mg/L.
