味稍甜而后微苦。有吸湿性。对光敏感。溶于水、甘油和碱溶液，微溶于乙醇和丙酮，不溶于苯。5%水溶液pH7.2-8.0，在无二氧化碳的水中为8.7。
生物合成辅酶A的前提物质，由于泛酸的易潮解等不稳定特性，故用钙盐作替代物。

Vitamin B-5D-Pantothenic acid calcium salt hydrate acts as a precursor in the biosynthesis of coenzyme A. It also involved in the catabolism of fatty acids, preparation of heme and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. It is involved in the regulation of gene expression and in signal transduction. Further, it is used in sphingolipids, cholesterol and steroid hormones.
