It can be mutagenic or carcinogenic due to its reaction with DNA creating adducts of deoxyguanosine and deoxyadenosine.Usually used in preparing malondialdehyde standards during malondialdehyde assay on lung homogenates,and also used to study the effect of Salvianolic acid A on the migration and proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells.
