Metanepharines have been determined to be secreted in excess along with catecholamines in pheochromocytomas. rac Metanephrine Hydrochloride Salt has been used to develop an online solid-phase extraction coupled with HPLC-tandem mass spectrometric detection method for the concentration of metanephrine in free plasma. The compound has also been used to block α-adrenoceptors.
