半乳凝素-9（LGALS9）也被称为肿瘤抗原HOM-HD-21和凝集素。半乳凝素是一个蛋白质家族，由其对β-半乳糖苷糖的结合特异性定义，如N-乙酰乳糖胺（Galβ1-3GlcNAc或Galβ1-2GlcNAc），可以通过N-连接或O-连接的糖基化与蛋白质结合。半乳凝素-9对Forssman五糖具有很高的亲和力，也是HAVCR2/TIM3的配体。此外，半乳凝素-9通过引起巨噬细胞活化和IL1B分泌来刺激受感染巨噬细胞的杀菌活性，从而限制细胞内细菌的生长。
