Application
1,2,3,4-Tetrafluoro-5-methylbenzene is an organolithium compound that is a colorless liquid. It is used in organic synthesis for the nitration of naphthalene and as a reagent in the preparation of other organolithium compounds. 1,2,3,4-Tetrafluoro-5-methylbenzene differs from other organolithium compounds because it reacts with borates to form tetrafluoro borate salts. The spectroscopy of 1,2,3,4-Tetrafluoro-5-methylbenzene consists of infrared, Raman and nuclear magnetic resonance. 1,2,3,4-Tetrafluoro-5-methylbenzene has a nucleophilic fluorine atom that coordinates to the metal ion at the anode during electrochemical reduction. This coordination provides for an electron transfer pathway between the two species, which facilitates reduction of the metal ion and generation of hydrogen gas.
