α-突触核蛋白是一种神经元蛋白，在突触活动中起着多种作用，如调节突触小泡的运输和随后的神经递质释放。它在多聚体膜结合状态下也充当分子伴侣，协助突触前质膜上称为SREs（可溶性NSF附着蛋白受体）的突触融合成分与半胱氨酸串蛋白α/DJC5结合折叠。α-突触核蛋白的异常与帕金森病（PD）的发病机制有关。α-突触核蛋白存在于路易体内，这是帕金森病的神经病理学标志，该蛋白及其聚集与最终导致神经退行性变的神经毒性途径广泛相关。
