Drosocin is a 19 mer cationic antimicrobial peptide from Drosophila melanogaster, consisting of 19 amino acids. In fruit flies, natural fruit fly proteins carry a disaccharide moiety that attaches to the threonine residue at the mid chain position. This synthesized peptide has the same amino acid sequence, does not contain disaccharides, and its activity is several times lower than natural compounds.
