MANF是一种分泌性神经营养因子，在脑、神经元和某些非神经元组织中表达。它已被证明可以促进多巴胺特异性神经元的存活、生长和功能。MANF及其结构同源物CDNF均含有一个N-末端、皂苷样脂质结合结构域和一个羧基末端结构域，该结构域与之前表征的蛋白质结构不同源。MANF和CDNF可以通过在帕金森病大鼠实验模型中触发存活通路来预防6-OHDA诱导的多巴胺能神经元退化。重组人MANF是一种18.1 kDa的蛋白质，由158个氨基酸组成，包括8个半胱氨酸残基。
