2,4,6-Trichlorophenyl chlorosulfate (TCPC) is a highly reactive electrophilic reagent used for the synthesis of aryl and heteroaryl sulfonamides1. It enables the generation of sulfonyl chlorides and shelf-stable sulfonate esters directly from aryl- and heteroarylzinc reagents without the need for transition-metal catalysts. These intermediates can then be converted into sulfonamides through reactions with amines. The reagent facilitates the functionalization of various heterocycles, including sterically hindered aryl compounds, pyrazoles, and thiophenes, expanding its utility in pharmaceutical and material synthesis. TCPC is a stable and solid reagent that can be stored for a long time without any signs of decomposition.
