Apamin is a major peptide in bee venom, consisting of 18 amino acids and containing two pairs of disulfide bonds in its sequence. It accounts for 3% of the dry weight of bee venom and is composed of 18 amino acids. Apamin is the smallest neurotoxic peptide among all components in bee venom and can penetrate the blood-brain barrier. It is also a specific and selective blocker of Ca2+- activated K+(SK) channels, with anti-inflammatory and anti fibrotic effects.
