Derived  from a 50 year old Japanese male with generalised lymphadenopathy and  heptosplenomegaly (Adult T-cell Leukaemia) by co-culture of his peripheral  leukocytes with male umbilical cord lymphocytes. The cells carry HTLV-1 and  support the growth of HIV. The cells should be handled under laboratory  containment level 3 conditions.
