Amloid Forming peptide GNNQQNY is a heptapeptide derived from the N-terminal prion determining domain of yeast protein Sup35. Its sequence has strong hydrophobicity and can form amyloid fibrils. The availability of its detailed atomic oligomeric structure makes it a good model for studying the early stages of aggregation. GNNQQNY dimer forms three stable sheet-like structures. Parallel within registers, parallel outside registers, and anti parallel. The aligned parallel dimer is close to the amyloid beta fold structure, with few peptide hydrogen bonds, making hydrophobic interactions more important and increasing conformational entropy compared to anti parallel folding.
