In the early stages of development, E-cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is most expressed. In the next stage, the development of neuronal boards results in the expression of N-cadherin and a decrease in E-cadherin. Finally, during spinal cord development and segmental condensation, the expression of E-P - and N-cadherin increases. After development, cadherin plays a role in maintaining cell and tissue structure as well as cell movement.
