WLBU2 is an engineered cationic antimicrobial peptide (eCAP) composed of 24 amino acids, which overcomes the sensitivity issue of natural antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in the environment. WLBU2 exhibits rapid bactericidal activity, with MIC values ≤ 10 μ M against various Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria (including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin resistant Enterococcus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, etc.). WLBU2 can prevent the biofilm growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, maintain activity in environments rich in mucus, low pH, and high salt concentration, and has no adverse effects on human respiratory epithelial cells. WLBU2 can be used to study cystic fibrosis (CF) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.
